Season series: The Yankees lead the Indians, 3-1, this year. The Yankees lead, 1,074-847, overall.

Indians update: The Indians hit .197 and were outscored, 23-9, in losing three out of four to the Yankees in June. The Tribe’s only win was a 1-0 decision when Carlos Carrasco and the bullpen combined on a five-hitter.

Yankees update: They hit .336 with five homers against the Tribe in June. Derek Jeter, six hits shy of 3,000, could be activated for the series. He strained his right calf against the Tribe.

Injuries: Indians — RHP Fausto Carmona (right quad), RF Shin-Soo Choo (left thumb), 1B Matt LaPorta (right ankle), RHP Alex White (right middle finger) and OF Trevor Crowe (right shoulder) are on the disabled list. Yankees — SS Jeter (right calf), RHP Hughes (right shoulder), 3B Eric Chavez (left foot), RHP Rafael Soriano (right elbow), RHP Joba Chamberlain (right elbow) and RHP Jeff Marquez (right shoulder) are on the disabled list.

I believe the Indians are two bats short and two arms short of competing for an American League Penent.

I think one of those bats could emerge from Columbus -- it is not necessary to find a .280 25 home run guy but .220 and 10 is out of the question and that is what he have with Buck, Kearns, Duncan and others. That is way too many ineffective at-bats.

I would stick with Carmona. He is spectacular when he is on. I would not abandon him now knowing that he could just as quickly cycle back to effectiveness.

The back end of the rotation could otherwise be improved, or not made worse, by replacing Talbot with Gomez or McAllister.

Wouldn't mind seeing Talbot and Valbuena traded for one of those bats although it is a bit of a dream that we can get anyone solid without giving up a significant prospect.

I believe that Durbin will be totally ineffective in key moments of the game. I'll be watching him closely during the Yankee series. Hope I am wrong.

I love being a Yankee. I enjoy playing in New York and for the greatest fans in the world. I love being your teammate. I love doing the pie thing for you when we walk off and I think we have lots of fun together on the bench. So if it isn’t too much to ask, could you guys score some runs for me? You do it for the big man, so if you could do it for me too, I’d really appreciate it.
