Why Parents Hate 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade Science Fair Projects
“3rd grade science fair project due next week!”, “2nd grade science fair project due tomorrow”, “1st grade science fair project is late”. These statement alone may be enough to send both children and parents into a state of chaos.
How Much Time Will These Science Experiments for Kids Take?
There are four main reasons why parents really do hate this aspect of their children’s education. First of all, grade science project for Jarad ? And you only have a week? When your schedule is already packed, it’s difficult to feel that one more project can be added to the day.
Science for Kids Should be a Decision From a Higher Authority
The second reason is related to the fact that most often, in the name of science for kids, the parents or teacher ends up selecting the 3rd grade science projects ideas that they think would make great science experiments for kids. If you select one for your child, how can you transmit a sense of passion about it to your child successfully? Without passion in what a child is doing, he’ll get little attention for the project, and the effort will seem wasted. And of course, if you don’t have any hint of passion for the 2nd grade science projects ideas you’re considering, then it will be difficult to get your child excited about science fair project ideas for the following years. Kids do follow your example.
To prevent failure, parents often have to step in and decide what is “good science” and meet a deadline. What is a good 1 grades haven’t yet developed the scientific thinking skills necessary to generate science project ideas nor the skills necessary to plan, initiate and carry out the science fair project on their own. The kids are just too young to do a project on their own. On top of that, science – especially chemistry – can be dangerous. If kids are left to their own devices, good science project ideas could easily become the opposite of safe and easy science fair projects that raise consciousness of science around us and turn heads enough to win the medals. Supervision is needed every step of the way.
3rd grade Science Fair Projects Should Not be Required of Kids
If kids can’t reason, or plan, and teachers or parents are the ones that end up doing the work turning science fair project ideas into viable science experiments for kids that meet the criteria for a 1 grade science fair project, then why have them at all? Science for kids is crazy! Once this idea pops into your head as a parent, these projects become the #1 despised and hated project of all time.
