Price eager to get on roll
Rays left-hander David Price , who carries an 8-6 record and 3.43 ERA into today's Fourth of July road game against the Minnesota Twins, will have two starts before his appearance in the All-Star game.
He wants to get on a roll.
"I feel like I've been throwing the ball pretty well,'' Price said.
Even though it hasn't necessarily been reflected in the statistics. Last season, Price went into the All-Star break leading the American League in victories (12) and ERA (2.42).
"He may be an even better pitcher right now,'' Rays manager Joe Maddon said before Sunday's 8-3 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals at Tropicana Field. "His fastball has gotten even better, I think. His command of the breaking stuff, knowing how to pitch, it's all better. I think he's going to keep getting better overall. He's the kind of guy where (high) expectations bring out the best in him.''

Rays DH Johnny Damon now has 2,661 career hits, two short of Nellie Fox for 68th place on the all-time list. He has 502 career doubles, tying him with Andre Dawson for 50th place all-time. In his past eight games, Damon is batting .441 (14-for-34) with eight RBIs.
Important trip ahead
The Rays have seven road games — three at Minnesota, then four against the New York Yankees — before the All-Star break. They are 10 games over .500 and five behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East. Maddon wants a winning road trip.
"We were in the situation where we lost seven straight games going into the break (in 2008) and that was pretty awful,'' Maddon said. "We want a nice even pace going into it. We'd like to build some momentum because the teams ahead of us are playing so well.''
Cards' La Russa: The beat goes on

"We got beat. Everyone watched the game. It is pretty clear how we got beat. They scored more than we scored. They played better and pitched better. They managed better, as always. We just got beat.''
